adidas Originals x White Mountaineering SS16

Japanese brand White Mountaineering launched their first apparel collaboration with adidas Originals this SS16, just one season after their first footwear collaboration and 5 years after first conversations began between the two heavyweights. Capturing scale of an extremely well-chosen venue, photographs can’t explain how the collection has potential to be the modern mans uniform moving forward.
Although profoundly sportswear-inspired, styles range from lightweight jackets and coats, to pocket vests and long cardigans championing a sleek look. Lightweight fabrics (in the form of blue, grey, cream and green colour palettes) and prints (seeing the three stripes altered into various directions and abit of camouflage) allow a transition of styles, completing a sort of uniform (as we say, for the ‘modern man’ – still as independent in style as any other individual, although seeking practicality above all).

With the launch of the adidas Originals Tubular, we see an embrace of what the modern man (and woman – the line can indeed be adopted as unisex) needs – functional wear with a clean aesthetic. Items that can translate to both daywear and get away as evening-wear, assisting hectic schedules by allowing comfort and movement in more than one way, and simplifying the day to day ritual of getting dressed (to clothing that also represents our personalities), are all assets of the adidas Originals x White Mountaineering range.

Designer Yosuke Aizawa knows what he is doing, and it’s his design aesthetic that is needed to take adidas Originals to a premium level. Their innovative production was always there, it just awaited the right person to communicate it in the right way. Not only through the right design concept, but to also make it more desirable and allow it to compete against others in this playing field (such as Nike’s Gyakusou). Taking steps with VP of Global Design Nic Galway, we see big leaps here for Adidas in the right direction.
