HERBIE HANCOCK QUARTET AT BLUE NOTE, TOKYO
HERBIE HANCOCK QUARTET
August 31, 2016
Down the stairs of the iconic Blue Note Aoyama, the music had started; the enthusiastic piano keys hummed with the bass in a rhythmic dance. No lyrics needed, it’s the instruments here that sing in the most fluent and seemingly effortless melody.
One of the greatest musicians of our time Herbie Hancock, performed at the Blue Note in Tokyo with his quartet; Herbie Hancock Quartet featuring Hancock on piano and keyboard, with James Genus on bass, Trevor Lawrence Jr. on drums, Terrace Martin on saxophone and keyboard.
Performing notable classics alongside new explorations, Hancock explained that some hadn’t even yet been titled! It was an extraordinary insight into the legendary musician and artist, who’s ongoing progressive jazz continues to push new boundaries in the field. If you have a chance to witness Hancock’s genius in person, it is not to miss. Legendary for our time and beyond, as he and his music continues to evolve, it remains completely modern and progressive even to this day.
