HIATUS KAIYOTE AT BLUE NOTE TOKYO
Wednesday 25 – Thursday 26 May, 2016
Australian group Hiatus Kaiyote performed to a sold out show at the Blue Note Aoyama,
with a mixed audience of all ages, all seemingly deeply passionate and curious to experience the music of the emerging contemporary jazz group from Melbourne.
Helmed by lead singer Nai Palm, who wholeheartedly controls the stage and audience with her powerful voice, positive energy and effortless execution, accompanied by her complimentarily impressive band members, Paul Bender on bass, Perrin Moss on drums and Simon Mavin on keyboard – providing for an electric performance.
Seeing Hiatus Kaiyote live in intimate setting, is a whole new experience in itself.
Not only championing a new wave of contemporary jazz, it is completely new progressive category for music in general that they are creating. It is indeed a multi-dimensional excursion, touching on rock, hip hop, blues, soul and jazz. Nai Palm’s incredible vocal range takes on a sense of improvised sounds, and Mavin’s completely impressive skills on keyboard provide for an experimental YMO-like exchange. Pure brilliance.
