Located about an hour by train from Central Tokyo, the journey is justified with a destination of stellar artwork and captivating landscape. Kawamura DIC Museum of Art is a hidden gem, a destination in itself that houses some of the finest Japanese artworks and holds an impressive collection of international contemporary artists and works, personally curated and accumulated over decades by the Kawamura family and founders.From contemporary exhibitions showcasing Japanese artists, such as Tomoo Gokita, the museum also presents a permanent collection of local and foreign contemporary prominent artworks from Sol Lewitt to Roy Lichtenstein, and even houses a Mark Rothko room containing 7 of his 14 ‘Seagram Murals’. An experiential artwork to say the least.

Well worth the trip for a remarkable visit.
