SATOMI YAMAUCHI ‘CELEBRATION’
+ book launch
1-22 December, 2015
Tokyo-based photographer Satomi Yamauchi presents ‘Celebration’,
her second solo exhibition at the renowned Gallery 360˚ in Tokyo.
‘Celebration’ follows her first exhibition, ‘This Must Be The Place’, both shot during her revisit to her hometown in Florida, resulting in a resounding comparison between her upbringing in the beachside of Shizuoka, Japan and childhood in sunny Florida. ‘Celebration’ is a continuation in her Florida series, focussing on the influence of Walt Disney and his ambitious creation in 1994, a utopian town named Celebration.
Located southeast of Orlando, Florida, in vicinity to Walt Disney World Resort, the residential area in Celebration is surrounded by wooden railings and consists of rows of “good old American” colonial-style houses, which is “the safe, delightful, dreamlike town with nice communication to neighbours”. Including “EPCOT”, the experimental future city which Walt Disney made great efforts to construct during his last years.
The show runs until December 22, 2015.
