STUSSY X KIKO KOSTADINOV
London-based fashion student Kiko Kostadinov is launching his capsule collection with the iconic brand Stussy this morning. Stussy wearers and collectors, take note.
The collection, covering a well-curated range of the Stussy apparel, has been cut-up and collaged back together to form unique limited edition pieces,
each individual and unlike the other.
Currently embarking on a Masters at the highly-regarded Central Saint Martins, the 25-year old designer was born in Bulgaria and now lives in South London and has been situated there for 9 years.
As a designer, Kiko approaches projects such as this with a relaxed yet highly considered manner.
Stussy x Kiko Kostadinov launches today at SHOWStudio’s store MACHINE A in London’s Soho.
With item numbers limited, and the collaboration already in high demand – get their quick.
How did this collaboration with Stussy begin?
This is second and larger capsule collection as follow up to very limited run of 6 piece that I did for SHOWstudio on-line store.
It came from an editorial project for Clash magazine. Friend and stylist Stephen Mann who commissioned me to work around basic logo sweatshirts and hoodies. The idea was to play with the classic logo and almost try to make it unrecognizable, which is an impossible task, due to the iconic status. Couple months after that SHOWStudio approached Stussy UK and Michael Kopelman asked me if I would be up to do a few pieces as special project. With this new capsule collection the aim was to move forward and create pieces that relate to my personal aesthetic, previous work and potentially develop into future projects.
With this collaboration continue?
I’m not too sure, yet. If it does, will be something different, something that excites me and the people that I work with. Next cuts, materials and techniques.
Tell us more about the Master you are studying at Central Saint Martins.
I’m currently in my first year focusing on Menswear. It is been really open experience as you are advice to focus on your personal interest and how they can influence what you are doing. It is very individual based course, where you don’t need to worry about anything else than been honest and trying to create work that you can stand behind and actually want to wear. Of course all needs to be backed up with sensible research and original ideas. As first year we currently helping second year students who are due to show their graduate collection in 5-6 weeks, straight after the tutors attention will shift towards us and our pre-collections. Next year this time, hopefully I will be showing my MA collection.
What does Stussy mean to you?
Stussy has an energy that has been going for 35 years. They try to stay relevant and young, which is really a remarkable thing to do for over three decades. The fact that Stussy initiate collaborations all the time is really interesting and positive, they don’t have an arrogant side attached to their name. It is quite pure.
