TOKYO DESIGN WEEK 2016

TOKYO DESIGN WEEK 2016

October 26th to November 7th, 2016
Meiji-Jingu GaienMae, Tokyo

Tokyo recently hosted their annual Design Week, showcasing emerging and established talent in architecture and design, alongside Japan’s corporate industry leaders and emerging designer talents, eager to present latest trends, innovations and technologies in product and industrial design.

Taking place in the Meiji-Jingue Gaienmae Central Venue, the design tradeshow brings together over 700 exhibitors from small businesses to large corporations, such as Panasonic and Fujifilm and Softbank SuperRobots, to additionally presenting university student group works as a nod to the future talents of Japan. This years Tokyo Design Week featured interactive installations, design talk shows, and a series of live performances and events. New to the fair was an outdoor air tent installation that paired leading designers and architects with commercial corporations reimagining products and materials in form and space.

Another new addition to the Tokyo Design Week presentations, this year a large tent was staged for live music performances presented by J-WAVE Fes. radio and Matsumoto’s Ringo Fes music festival. Ringo Fes originated from Matsumoto City of Nagano, and emerging as a leading organiser of film and music by curating artists, VJ’s, production team and more. With various genres of music groups such as Open Reel Ensemble to SIMI LAB (OMSB/ MARIA/ DyyPRIDE/ Hi’SPEC), the area was a highlight for visitors of all ages with Live Painting sessions by artist Ina Takayuki inside the tent, to colourful and immersive visual projections.
